As the only vocational school in Latvia with its own dedicated scientific research unit, Bulduri is home to the Biotechnology Center – a hub for next-generation horticultural development. Equipped with climate-controlled laboratories, agrochemical testing, plant tissue culture, and molecular biology facilities, this center supports both student-led innovation and world-class research.
Innovations in Horticulture: Latvia’s Smart Garden and Biotechnology Center
In 2025, Bulduri Technical School proudly stands as the only vocational institution in Latvia – and beyond – with its own scientific research unit. The Bulduri Biotechnology Center brings together laboratories for climate-controlled agriculture, agrochemistry, plant tissue cultures, and molecular biology, where world-class scientific research is conducted in the field of horticulture.
Students from the technical school, as well as from other secondary schools and even universities, develop their scientific research projects and complete qualification internships here. They gain hands-on experience in future-oriented horticulture, which they can later apply in creating and improving their own competitive horticultural enterprises.
One of the highlights of the school’s initiatives is the “Latvian i-Garden” – the first and so far the only smart garden in Latvia. Created as an educational and research project in collaboration with students and teachers, this garden features automated irrigation, lighting, and a data system that records information about plant growth and development. It serves not only as a learning tool but also as the first step toward digitally managed and sustainable horticulture in Latvia.
Here, students from vocational schools, secondary schools, and universities engage in hands-on scientific projects and qualification internships. They acquire not only knowledge but also real-world experience in advanced horticulture, giving them a strong foundation for launching competitive, future-focused enterprises.
Whether through soil analysis, in vitro propagation, or Latvia’s first smart garden – the i-Garden – Bulduri is building a smarter, more sustainable future for agriculture.

Development of Cultivation Technologies for Climate-Controlled Agriculture
Multi-Level Growing Rack
We design fully equipped 3–4 level growing racks.
The racks are suitable for cultivating cuttings, flower seedlings, strawberries, leafy greens, and other crops.
The number of levels and lamp placement can be adjusted according to the height of the crops.
Aeroponic Growing Systems
Cultivation in air, using a nutrient solution – aeroponic solutions for the agriculture of the future and for everyday consumption.
Sensor Kit
A cultivation support system for monitoring key parameters in aeroponic setups, helping ensure optimal growth conditions.
Why These Technologies Matter: The Importance of Climate-Controlled Cultivation Systems
In the face of rapid urbanization, climate change, and a growing global population, the development of cultivation technologies for climate-controlled agriculture is no longer optional — it is essential.
Traditional agriculture, while historically effective, is increasingly vulnerable to:
-
Extreme weather events (droughts, floods, heatwaves)
-
Decreasing arable land availability
-
Soil degradation and nutrient depletion
-
Pesticide overuse and contamination of ecosystems

Plant Micropropagation / In Vitro
High-quality, healthy, and rapidly propagated plants!
We offer professional plant propagation using tissue culture methods, producing from 500 to 5000+ plants per batch.
Why choose In Vitro propagation?
-
Genetic uniformity – all propagated plants are identical to the mother plant
-
Disease-free material – plants are grown in sterile, controlled conditions
-
Rapid multiplication – large quantities of plants in a short time
-
Year-round production – independent of seasons and climate
-
Efficient use of space – high plant density in small lab areas
-
Preservation of rare or valuable varieties – ideal for conservation and selective breeding
We work with:
-
Ornamental plants
-
Berries (e.g. strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
-
Vegetables and herbs
-
Industrial crops
-
Client-specific varieties (under agreement or license)
Because the entire process occurs in a sterile and highly regulated environment, it eliminates the variables found in traditional propagation — making it ideal for commercial-scale production, breeding programs, and the conservation of rare or endangered genotypes.

Microgreens!
Microgreens are young vegetable and herb sprouts with well-developed cotyledons – flavorful shoots with an attractive appearance.
We offer a variety of Brassicaceae (mustard family) microgreens:
Red cabbage, red mizuna, kohlrabi, kale, and more.
Upon request, we can grow microgreens from other plant families as well.
Microgreens in your diet:
-
Cotyledons have a higher nutritional value than mature leaves and vegetables
-
Rich in vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds
-
Increased fiber content
-
Macro- and micronutrients are in an easily absorbable form
-
100% pesticide- and herbicide-free
-
100% locally grown product
Microgreens can contain up to 40 times more nutrients than their fully grown counterparts, making them an excellent way to boost your daily intake of vitamins and antioxidants.
They support immune function, reduce inflammation, and help maintain healthy digestion and energy levels.
